P. Furius Crassipes (ca. 84 BC). AR denarius (23mm, 3.91 gm, 2h). NGC Choice VF, 2/5 - 4/5 double-struck with rotation. Rome. AED•CVR, turreted head of Cybele right; foot downward behind / CRASSIPES, curule chair, P•FOVRIVS on seat crossbar. Crawford 356/1c. Sydenham 735. Furia 19. From the Historical Scholar Collection Neither P. Furius Crassipes, nor his aedileship, are otherwise known apart from this issue. The obverse portrait of Cybele alludes to the Ludi Megalenses, with the foot an allusion to the cognomen Crassipes.
