Description

Constantius II, as Augustus (AD 337-361). AV solidus (23mm, 4.37 gm, 5h). NGC MS S 5/5 - 5/5, Fine Style. Thessalonica, AD 337-340. FL IVL CONSTAN-TIVS P F AVG, laurel-and-rosette-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Constantius II right / VIRTVS EXERCITVM, Constantius, in military attire, standing facing, head left, with grounded trophy in right and left hand on grounded; captive on either side, TES in exergue. RIC VIII -, cf. 32 (pearl-diademed). Extremely rare type with only four other specimens in sales archives. Incredible example with Fine Styled dies on a satiny honey toned flan.
