Divus Julius Caesar (49-44 BC), with C. Cossutius Maridianus, as Moneyer. AR denarius (21mm, 4.01 gm, 11h). ANACS VF 35. Posthumous issue of Rome, April 44 BC. PARENS PATRIAE-CAESAR, veiled and wreathed head of Julius Caesar right; apex behind, lituus right before / C•COSSVTIVS MARID-IANVS arranged in form of a cross; A-A-A-F•F in the angles. Crawford 480/19. Sydenham 1069. Charcoal toning of the recesses imbues the piece with a somber atmosphere.
