Lithuania. Stephan Bathory gold Ducat 1586/5 MS61 NGC, Vilniaus mint, Fr-3, Gum-771, Ivanauskas-8SB1-1 (RRRR), S&K-1236 (R8). Gold issues of Stephan Bathory are quite difficult to locate in their own right, with those of Danzig origin the most plentiful, yet still bringing impressive sums regardless of condition. On offer here is of the utmost rarity among the entire Polish-Lithuanian series struck during the final year of Bathory's reign, and one seen at auction once every decade or two. Undeniably stunning for such a small emission, whose ample mint flash still abounds more than 500 years later. Wonderfully pristine and full in both its quality and the impact of its expression, far surpassing those plated in the aforementioned references in strike and preservation. A clear trophy for the Lithuanian specialist as the lone straight-graded example in either conditional census.
