South Australia. British Colony - Victoria gold "Adelaide" Pound 1852 MS61 NGC, KM2, Fr-3, Rennik-pg. 21, McDonald-pg. 41. Type II reverse with dentilated/crenellated inner border. A wonderful addition to the greater Australian series, and one that is always a treat to handle when located confidently Mint State. Among the earliest forms of hard currency issued by the colony, struck from gold mined during the gold rush of the 1850s. Distinguished from its much scarcer and earlier counterpart by the dentilated/crenellated inner border to the reverse, providing an instantly recognizable and unique motif for these contested issues. Prominent mint brilliance enlivens the outer banks which find themselves remarkably free of handling apart from the occasional mark or wisp, and having developed a most pleasing patination, is worthy of inclusion to a quality-conscious collection.
