Regensburg. Free City Taler ND (c. 1649) MS64 PCGS, Regensburg mint, Deth./Ord.-160, Pax in Nummis-1152, Plato-172. By U. Gravenauer and HS Federer. Of the utmost rarity for Taler collectors, especially at this level of preservation for this near-Gem pictorial type, rendered in semi-medallic fashion with each detail practically projecting towards the viewer upon illumination. An always coveted "Shautaler" and struck in celebration of the Peace of Westphalia, which would be memorialized on coinage sporadically for the next few centuries. Envisioned with great detail and symbolism, the Noah's ark, dove, and laurel wreath motifs perfectly appropriate for this momentous accord. The sole occupant at either grading service and seemingly a type last offered in 2016, this impressive survivor endures enveloped in glasslike resplendence and a gentle cabinet patina which elevate the aesthetic caliber in its entirety, and is undoubtedly deserving of advanced consideration.
