Hong Kong Government of Hong Kong 1 Dollar on 1000 Yen ND (1945) Pick 318 PMG Choice Uncirculated 64. After the British Military regained control of Hong Kong from the Japanese, there was a need to replace occupation notes that were circulating. As such, this semi-crude Japanese designed note was overprinted by the Hong Kong Government. However, proper notes printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Company were delivered by plane in 1945 to Hong Kong, which rendered these temporary notes unnecessary. Since this $1 was never officially issued, it is rare, as most were destroyed. This example was thankfully saved for posterity. No finer graded examples have been sold in traceable, public auctions. An important opportunity to acquire a rare type from the end of World War II.
