Description

INDIA. Kushan Empire. Huvishka (ca. AD 151-190). AV dinar (20mm, 7.97 gm, 12h). NGC AU 5/5 - 4/5. Kushan standard, Gandhara, subsidiary mint (probably Peshawar), late phase. ÞAONANOÞAO O-OHÞKI KOÞANO, nimbate half-length bust of Huvishka left, wearing mustache, and wart on cheek, triangular helmet with pointed jeweled earflap, forehead medallion, crest jewel, and circular and crescent side ornaments, two diadems with triangular ties to right, upper diadem with ribbons to right, lower diadem with ladder-like ribbons over both shoulders, cloak over shoulders clasped at right shoulder, worn over collared jeweled tunic, jewel-edged armlets, club in right hand with pointed index finger, transverse filleted scepter with elliptical finial in left hand over shoulder/ ΦAPO, Pharro standing facing, nimbate helmeted head left, cloak around shoulders clasped at right shoulder over calf-length tunic, and boots, grounded filleted staff with knob finial in left hand, bag of coins in outstretched right hand; tamgha with crossbar in left field, dotted border.
