Penal Colony. Victoria Rupee Token 1861 XF45 Brown NGC, KM-Tn1, Prid-1. Variety with central hole. An exceptionally scarce token designed for this settlement that the British government first proposed in 1855, but did not formally begin constructing until late in 1857 after the First Indian War of Independence. To date, this is the first example we have offered in over 20 years, NGC and PCGS recording just 7 total examples in their censuses, the finest of which is an AU55. Though showing some minor contact to the surfaces, this proves far from distracting, with an even walnut hue dressing the surfaces and lightening as it reaches the rims.
