Description

Charles III gold Escudo 1761/0 Mo-MM MS63 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM116, Fr-28, Cal-1375. An elusive overdate for this fleeting two-year portrait type embellished by an absolutely bewitching tier of preservation, especially for a milled denomination rarely encountered in Mint State designations. Honeyed golden resplendence abounds this peak-quality specimen, dressed in a resounding mint brilliance that concentrates towards the legends, highlighting semi-Prooflike flashes of originality. Not only is the current representative a conditional outlier for the type, but endures as the sole finest Escudo from Charles III's prolific reign at either NGC or PCGS. This, coupled with its impressive pedigree, is a singular opportunity for any advanced collector of Spanish colonial issues. Ex. Rudman Collection (Heritage Auction #3041, August 2015, Lot 31140); Norweb Collection (Christie's, May 1985, Lot 88)
