Description

MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AV stater (18mm, 8.60 gm, 1h). NGC Choice AU 5/5 - 4/5. Sidon, under Menes, dated Regnal Year 10 of Abdalonymos (324/3 or 323/2 BC). Head of Athena right, hair in four corkscrew curls, wearing pendant earring, beaded necklace, and triple-crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on head, long curled crest ends, bowl decorated with coiled serpent right / AΛEΞANΔPOY, Nike standing left, wreath in outstretched right hand, stylis cradled in left arm; K (date) in outer left field, ΣI in left field below wing. Price 3494. Solidly struck on bright, flashy flan. Areas of die rust in the fields on the obverse.
