Maria I gold 4000 Reis 1801/791-(B) UNC Details (Cleaned) NGC, Bahia mint, KM225.2, cf. LMB-499 (unlisted overdate), Guimaraes-1801/79?-1.1. Mintage: 3,705. First year of issue. A popular Bahia issue bearing bold, crude motifs and luminous recesses. Guimaraes notes all 1801 issues as being re-punched dates from a 1790's die, though he does not state the last digit.
