A rarity from Maria & Pedro III's reign as well as a coveted piece from the Brazilian gold series. Presenting well rendered surfaces with near uncirculated motifs, the present offering retains a fair share of its original cartwheel luster that now underlies a subtle amber patina, indicative of a cleaning long ago. A scarce emission from late 1777--considering Jose's passing in that year--, this seldom-seen selection is the second example auctioned in the last 20 years, matching the grade of RLM's piece, the only other graded representative.
