Description

Saxony. Johann Georg I Taler 1617 MS66 NGC, Dresden mint, KM103, Dav-7595. Struck to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. On one side of the coin is the portrait of Johann Georg I, Duke in 1617. On the other side is the portrait of Friedrich der Weise, Duke in 1517. The finest example in the NGC census, featuring icy surfaces rippling with luster beneath sharply struck devices. Peach wisps shadow the central fields, while charcoal cabinet toning enhances the outer legends. With superb eye appeal and intriguing historical context, this piece is sure to catch the eye of many discerning collectors.
