Description

British India. Victoria gold Proof Restrike 1/2 Anna 1877-(c) PR66 PCGS, Calcutta mint, cf. KM487c (unlisted mint for this date), S&W-6.460. 19.74gm. Obverse B with 4-1/4 jabot panels. A simply brilliant off-metal striking of this fairly large issue, lending fully to the Proof finish in gold, full in its expression of Victoria's portrait embellished by a scrolled-foliate jabot and intricate crown. As a restrike issue, this piece is likely the product of special request, which was frequently the cause for many of these restrikes' existence, and clearly cared for as denoted by the premium gem designation. The sole finest of three currently certified and sure to garner interest commensurate with the rapidly expanding market for these popular off-metal issue. Accompanied by a lot card from the David Fore sale. Ex. David Fore Collection (Baldwin's Auction 78, May 2013, Lot 269)
