Description

Mughal Empire. Akbar (AH 963-1014 / AD 1556-1605) gold Mohur AH 981 (AD 1573/1574) MS65 NGC, Agra mint, cf. KM106.1 (this date not listed), BMC (Mughal)-Unl., Whitehead-Unl., cf. Hull-1202 (different date). 10.98gm. With mint epithet Dar al-Khilafat. A deeply engraved gem, featuring chiseled devices with boldly engraved calligraphy and a luminescent mint bloom emanating from the crevices. The first example we have offered from this seemingly very elusive date for the issue, which is usually encountered with at least minor evidence of circulation. Seemingly missing from the standard literature and undocumented on Zeno, we would note that the present offering stands as the sole finest certified by either NGC or PCGS. From the Leo's College Fund Collection
