Mintage: 5,500 sets. An especially appealing rendition of this classic gold British coronation Proof set, encountered somewhat regularly at auction, and yet rarely of the technical caliber seen here. Every coin has been recognized with a special designation for outstanding visual quality--either by a plus, star, or both. Just a few copper spots on the reverse of the 1/2 Sovereign have taken on a violet hue, producing a unique visual character. We last offered a set of similar quality to this in January 2021 (Auction #3089, lot 31249), which brought $21,600. Sold with its red cardboard case of issue.
