Description

George III Crown 1820/19 MS66 NGC, KM675, S-3787, ESC-2018 (R3; prev. ESC-220A). LX edge. The last crown series from George III's significant reign, boasting portrait and reverse St. George vignette by noted engraver Benedetto Pistrucci, laudable struck as to render each painstaking detail fully upon the argent planchet beneath. Level, lustrous surfaces of unparalleled smoothness provide a flawless platform for silky cartwhweel luster seeming to shine from great depth. A stunner in MS66, an already coveted designation for any British coin of this vintage, made even more distinctly impressive by the presence of an overdate, turning a fairly common coin into an R3, as noted by Bull. Not only described as the finest for the variety, but tied with six others for "top pop" status for the date out of more than 200 examples submitted. For the grade-conscious collector of British Crowns, look no further for preservation or eye appeal, as this offering boasts both in abundance.
