James II gold 2 Guineas 1687 MS61 NGC, KM464, S-3399, Schneider-454. An imposing example of this two-year issue, struck in 1687 and 1688, incredibly fleeting and thus out of reach to most collectors. In fact, just over a handful of auction results can be counted from the last two decades. High-relief motifs stand strikingly bold over the semi-glossy fields, James' bust rendered to a majestic quality. The shield does not fall-short in quality, proving an intricate engraving upon also semi-reflective peripheries. Though the few wisps prevented it from a higher grade, this scarce Mint State survivor has plenty of eye-appeal in hand and is definitely a disputable piece between advanced British type collectors.
