Philippe VI (1328-1350) gold Chaise d'Or ND (from 1346) MS62 NGC, Paris mint, Fr-269, Ciani-290, Dup-258. 4.70gm. Emission from 17 July 1346. +Ph'ILIPPVS: DЄI: GRΛCIΛ: FRΛnCORVM: RЄX (double saltire stops), Philippe seated facing on gothic throne, scepter held at right, to left, rod topped by hand of justice; all within tressures with Lis in spandrels; four saltires below foot of throne / +:XP'C: VInCIT: XP'C: RЄGИΛT: XP'C: IMPЄRΛT (triple annulet stops), cross Fleury, quatrefoil within curvilinear rhombus-shaped center, inward-facing Lis in angles; all within quadrilobe with crowns in spandrels. A conservatively graded representative of the type displaying appreciable boldness owed to a firm strike and good centering, resulting in fully legible legends and crisp central devices.
