Description

CYPRUS. Salamis. Uncertain King (480-460 BC). AR stater (23mm, 11.08 gm, 9h). NGC Choice VF 5/5 - 4/5. A pu ke-na-ku mo no to (Cypriot), couchant ram right on dotted grounded line / Pa-si-le-o-se (Cypriot), legend around and within large ankh. Unpublished in the standard references. Cf. Roma Numismatics, Auction XXIII (24 March 2022), lot 349 for another example and the only specimen in sales archives. Deeply struck on oblong flan which allows nearly the full legend to be present on the obverse. Highly attractive in hand. Note - the reverse legend equates to Basileus in Greek.
