Description

Leopold I gold 5 Ducat 1659 MS63+ NGC, Vienna mint, KM1163, Fr-262, Horsky-Unl., MzA-158, Herinek-84, CNA-8-a-2. 17.30gm. Franz Faber von Rosenstock as mintmaster. Laureate bust of Leopold I right / Crowned imperial eagle. Any multiple Ducat located in comparable conditions is considered of the utmost rarity, with so many falling victim to surface qualifiers including our Paramount specimen and its obverse graffiti. Issued in the Emperor's second year of reign and obviously the result of long-term storage in an advanced cabinet, the piece expresses practically pristine originality. Lemon-gold hues permeate the surfaces, enlivening the sensitively rendered portrait of a youthful Leopold and ornately engraved crowned arms. A charming specimen fully deserving of its advanced designation and "+" inclusion that is expected to interest even the most advanced collectors of the multiple Ducat series.
