Description

Charles III gold 4 Escudos 1781 Mo-FF AU58 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM142.2, Cal-1819 (prev. Cal-338). A near Mint State specimen with few traces of contact on the obverse, and an overall shimmer to the fields. Deep russet patination seems to lift the devices and imbue a dimensionality to the piece. An elusive date with a scarce grade designation, with NGC noting that this piece is tied with four others for the entire Charles III 4 Escudos series, and no examples finer across all dates.
