MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AV stater (19mm, 8.57 gm, 9h). NGC MS S 5/5 - 5/5. Early posthumous issue of Lampsacus, ca. 323-317 BC. Head of Athena right, hair flowing loose in waves and over left shoulder, wearing triple-crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on head, short intersecting crest ends, the bowl decorated with coiled serpent right / AΛEΞANΔPOY, Nike advancing left, wreath in outstretched right hand, stylis cradled in left arm; buckle in outer left field; AΩ monogram in left field below wing. Price 1374. Remarkable strike and detailing on sumptuous honey fields. Handsome, Fine Style dies.
