MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AV stater (20mm, 8.58 gm, 6h). NGC Choice MS 5/5 - 5/5. Posthumous issue of Lampsacus, ca. 310-301 BC. Head of Athena right, hair flowing loose and over left shoulder, wearing beaded necklace and triple-crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on head, short intersecting crest ends, bowl decorated with coiled serpent right / AΛEΞANΔPOY, Nike advancing left, wreath in outstretched right hand, stylis cradled in left arm; ΠO monogram above forepart of Pegasus left in left field. Price 1388. An attractive piece, struck in high relief, with considerable residual luster.
