Pedro II gold 4000 Reis 1698/7-(B) AU53 NGC, Bahia mint, KM89, cf. LMB-26 (unlisted overdate), Guimaraes-1698-1.1. Second type, narrow crown. "PORTVGxREXx" variety. Key-date of its type, this interesting issue has the 1696 obverse die combined with the 1697 reverse die, the latter with a re-engraved date. An appealing example, showing virtually uncirculated surfaces with detailed devices and toned, lustrous fields. Ex.
