Description

Hohenzollern-Hechingen. Hermann Friedrich Otto Taler 1804 W-CH MS64 NGC, Stuttgart mint, KM35, Dav-203, Schön-8, AKS-1, Thun-203, Bahrfeldt-31a. Mintage: 2,000. A fleeting and low-mintage one-year type that exists at virtually unchallenged status in terms of technical grade--the Rockaway example, the one other in MS64, showing a somewhat distracting striated tone over the obverse, and clear adjustments through the reverse arms. Pleasantly free of obtrusive marks, mint-made or otherwise, the piece fields a generally even dolphin-gray patina with a golden halo in the outer registers, though a contained patch of turquoise and teal color on the reverse may indicate where it used to rest on an old tray tag. Needless to say, an excellent rarity. Ex. Köhlmoos Collection (Münzen & Medaillen AG Basel Auction 91, March 2001, Lot 302) From the Cape Coral Collection of German Coins, Part I
