Description

Frankfurt. Free City Taler 1859 MS66 PCGS, Frankfurt am Main mint, KM360, Dav-649, AKS-8, Thun-142. A very challenging grade for an oft-neglected type in comparison to the larger 2 Talers of the period, probably owing at least in part to their normally low-quality preservation. A workhorse denomination writ large, PCGS only records having seen one other this fine, with this example's mottled coloration undoubtedly endowing it with a singular eye appeal. For the sake of completeness, we note a few tiny abrasions below the S in STADT. Ex. Heritage Auction #3053 (January 2017, Lot 36486); Ernst Otto Horn Collection, Part 4 (Künker Auction 272, February 2016, Lot 1358) From the Cape Coral Collection of German Coins, Part I
