Description

Bavaria. Maximilian I Joseph Taler 1801 MS62 NGC, Munich mint, KM644, Dav-540, Schön-185, Thun-32, Wittelsbach-2557, Hahn-427. Simply a type which is almost impossible to locate in fully Mint State condition, its usually shallow engraving often leading to a rapid accumulation of wear. Currently the sole certified specimen, the selection positively abounds in luster that carefully bends around the central features, picking up on notes of orange-peel color. The reverse displays the typical extensive flan adjustments for the issue, though in this quality, these act almost as rays channeling the coin's luster across the planchet. Ex. Johann Max Böttcher Collection (Harald Möller Auction 42, November-December 2006, Lot 164) From the Cape Coral Collection of German Coins, Part I
