Baden. Friedrich I 2 Gulden 1856 MS66 NGC, Karlsruhe mint, KM237, Dav-529, AKS-116, Thun-29, Wielandt-1066. Of the utmost scarcity in this grade, the selection seen here, when exposed to even indirect light, has the appearance of a museum piece, fully satin graphite surfaces darkening ever so slightly at the rims, likely suggesting many years stored in a coin cabinet. Flares of blue fill the recesses around the twin griffins, providing a strong visual pop against soft golden backlight. Remarkably, a single MS67 presently grades finer at PCGS, which brought a hammer price of 5,500 Euros in 2018. Ex.
