Description

Anhalt-Dessau. Leopold Friedrich Proof Taler 1869-A PR65 NGC, Berlin mint, cf. KM20 (unlisted in Proof), Dav-509, AKS-30, Thun-10. Without a doubt a type which benefits enormously from this Proof finish, as well as a coin that could practically be seen in a '66 holder, likely limited by a thin hairline scratch behind the bust. The finest among just 3 Proof-graded Talers of this date in the NGC census, the offering is blast-white save for an irregular patch of merlot toning on the reverse, perhaps from sitting on a collector's tray tag for many years. Quite practically perfect, and almost unimaginable meaningfully finer. Ex. Johann Max Böttcher Collection (Harald Möller Auction 42, November-December 2006, Lot 33) From the Cape Coral Collection of German Coins, Part I
