Republic 8 Reales 1828 EoMo-LF AU50 NGC, Estado de Mexico mint, KM377.5, DP-EoMo01 (Very Scarce). The rarity of this offering cannot be overemphasized. Struck at Tlalpan, the shortest-lived and most-ill conceived of all Mexican mints, according to Resplandores, presenting unusual clarity for the issue, where the 1828 dies are sharper than 1829 and 1830. Located only 10 miles from the acclaimed Mexico City mint, Tlalpan remained operational for only three years and was considered to be a financial disaster for the young Republic. We were able to locate a mere two examples auctioned in the last couple of decades, adding to the clear scarcity of such issue. Altogether, a diamond in the rough that is certain to engage Mexican type collectors.
