Description

British Colony. George VI Cent 1941 AU Details (Environmental Damage) NGC, London mint, KM24, Prid-192, Mars-C7. One of the key rarities of the Hong Kong series, showing a red-ochre tone to the sharp peripheries. The date was produced to an original mintage of 5,000,000 coins, the vast majority of which were lost or disposed of during the turbulent years of the Second World War, leaving exceptionally few available to collectors today. Interestingly, Pridmore notes that the type was only produced in Proof, and the issue was discontinued before currency strikes could be made.
