Republic Sun Yat-sen "Lower Five-Pointed Stars" Dollar ND (1912) MS64+ PCGS, Nanking mint, KM-Y319, L&M-42, Kann-603, Chang-CH182, WS-0085, Wenchao-847 (rarity 3 stars). Variety with lower five-pointed stars on reverse. Commemorating the birth of the Republic. A famed commemorative of the early Republic, produced not long after Sun Yat-sen's resignation as president in favor of Yuan Shih-kai. Not often located in such indisputably choice condition, we would note that we have handled fewer than 10 examples graded technically finer, with the certified population witnessed a steep drop-off of specimens above this level. In-hand inspection very quickly reveals why this coin has been awarded an added plus designation from PCGS--its fields are luminous and fully original, decorated by die polish and just the subtlest mottling of tone, with those few marks that are noted keeping it within a hair's breadth of fully gem status.
