Kweichow. Republic "Auto" Dollar Year 17 (1928) VF20 PCGS, Chengdu mint, KM-Y428, L&M-609, Kann-757e, WS-1109, Wenchao-1062 (rarity 2 stars). Two blades of grass variety. Struck during the 17th year of the Republic by Chow Hsi-chien (Zhou Xicheng), the Governor of Kweichow, to commemorate the completion of the provincial highway. It reportedly features the Governor's personal automobile, thus the nickname for the type - the Auto Dollar. An issue usually encountered with heavy circulation and/or grade qualifiers such as "Tooled" or "Cleaned," the offered example presents problem-free surfaces showing honest and uniform wear to the well-defined surfaces, occupied by a deep gunmetal patina. An iconic piece, sure to be prized by its future owner.
