Description

Kwangtung. Kuang-hsü 50 Cents ND (1890-1905) MS62 Prooflike PCGS, Kwangtung mint, KM-Y202, L&M-134, Kann-27, WS-0943, Wenchao-565. Heaton mint dies. Variety with Ku not connected. A coin of immediately impressive stature, and one whose sharp precision of detail and pondlike surface reflectivity evoke the question in the viewer's mind as to whether this is, in fact, a Specimen. Weakness atop portions of the dragon's scales are trademark for the issue, and while the rims here are perhaps not quite as distinctively squared-off as are those on high-grade Specimen strikings, this does not seem to dismiss the offering from being a special emission out-of-hand. In either case, a coin of the utmost (tone-free) beauty, and one worthy of in-hand inspection.
