Hunan. Funan Official Bureau Liangmianbing ("Two-Faced Cake") Tael (Mace, 7 Chi'en) ND (1906) AU58 PCGS, Funan mint, Kann-942, Hsu-208, L&M-386, WS-0907, Cribb-LXXXIII.A.1086. Obverse stamped in three columns, reading from right to left: "Hu Nan Fu Nan Guan Ju" (Hunan Provincial Funan Official Bureau); reverse stamped in three columns, reading from right to left: "Sheng Ping Zu Wen Yi Liang" (Provincial Weight Standard, pure fine silver, one ounce). An already fleeting type which will be well-known to collectors as an exceptionally rare find so near to Mint State, with typically uneven surfaces containing clear underlying radiant flow lines which seem to confirm its assigned grade from PCGS. Within that service's census, just 7 pieces have been graded numerically finer, the highest grade among which is an MS62. Preserving a nearly full outer border on both sides in spite of its trademark off-center strike, the offering is poised to draw ample attention from all those eager to locate a comparatively fine specimen free of details modifiers.
