Fengtien. Kuang-hsü Dollar CD 1903 AU Details (Obverse Scratched) NGC, Fengtien Arsenal mint, KM-Y92, L&M-483, Kann-251b, Chang-CH93, WS-0598, Wenchao-783 (rarity 3 stars). Variety with the Manchu characters in the center of the obverse (reverse as holdered) reversed to read "Fung-Boo." An instantly recognizable type, standing as the first dragon Dollar issue of Fengtien to conform to the "standard layout" of the provincial Dollars (featuring the Emperor's reign period, as well as English legends around the dragon). Unfortunately scratched to the right of the dragon's coiled body, the coin otherwise maintains a wholly attractive appearance, the surfaces decorated in a dolphin-gray tone over soft champagne backlight, while marks are serious friction are kept to a minimum. For the sake of comparison, we would note that the Glorium example we handled last December, similarly graded by PCGS, though for cleaning, brought $28,800.
