Description

Philip V gold Cob 2 Escudos 1715 Mo-J UNC Details (Environmental Damage) NGC, Mexico City mint, KM53.2, Cal-1740, Oro Macuquino-276. 6.68gm. From the 1715 Plate Fleet. Exceedingly attractive, and one of the most coveted dates within the Mexican Cob series, owing to its obvious associations with the 1715 Plate Fleet. Lightly muted in its surface luster as are the majority of offerings from that wreck, the piece seen here is undeniably of very fine quality, the obverse strike in particular exhibiting excellent centering, allowing for the date, mintmark, assayer's initial, and denomination to all be read with relative ease.
