Louis XV gold 2 Louis d'Or Mirliton 1724-A AU Details (Damaged) NGC, Paris mint, KM471, Gad-345 (R5), Dup-1637, L4L-464 (R4). Almost certainly part of the treasure of 82,010 livres sent to Nouvelle France in August 1725 aboard the Le Chameau, this bright Double Louis d'Or Mirliton appears strikingly close to uncirculated for its assigned grade, with generally minimal legitimate wear detectable. Despite some damage to the edge around 7 to 8 o'clock on the reverse, this piece has experienced much less of the muting that often occurs on these saltwater-damaged pieces--notes of brilliance still emerging under good light in the margins. Notable as a date missing from the Jones Collection, and a type not present in the Ford or Partrick Collections.
