Louis XV gold Louis d'Or Mirliton 1723-Y MS61 NGC, Bourges mint, KM-Unl., Gad-338 (unpriced), Dup-1638A, L4L-465 (R5). Short palms variety. From the 1725 Le Chameau shipwreck. Bearing deeply-engraved devices, dressed in a pale-gold tone, this rarity represents the sole example certified by the two major grading companies. Records from Parke-Bernet's 1971 sale of the Le Chameau cargo recovered in 1965 contained only 3 Bourges-minted Louis d'Or Mirliton of all mints, all from 1724. To the best of our knowledge, no other examples of this mint-date have come to auction since the sale of this piece in 2006, establishing what is likely a one-of-a-kind opportunity for series collectors. Ex. John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part XIII (Stack's January 2006, Lot 411)
