ATTICA. Athens. Ca. 2nd-1st centuries BC. AR tetradrachm (29mm, 16.22 gm, 12h). NGC XF 5/5 - 3/5. New Style issue, ca. 98/7 BC, Nicetes and Dionysius, as magistrates. Head of Athena right, wearing triple-crested Attic helmet decorated with a vine scroll, Pegasus above upturned cheek flap, protomes of four horses above visor / A-ΘE / NI-KH / THΣ / ΔIO / NY / ΣIOΣ / EMI, Owl standing facing on overturned amphora inscribed with Θ (month); gorgoneion facing in right field; ΣO (engraver's initials) below; all within olive wreath.
