Description

Henry VIII (1509-1547) gold Angel ND (1509-1526) AU58 NGC, Tower mint, Portcullis mm, S-2265, N-1760, Schneider-561 var. (different obverse die). 5.13gm. (portcullis) hЄnRIC (large crook-shaped abbreviation) • VIII (large crook-shaped abbreviation) • DI' • GRΛ' • RЄX • ΛGL' • Z • | F' (saltire stops), Archangel Michael nimbate, spearing the dragon (Satan) with cross-topped staff / (portcullis) PЄR • CRVCЄ' • TVΛ' • SΛLVΛ • nOS • XPЄ' • RЄDЄ' (saltire stops), cross and shield over ship, h-(rose) to either side. A gorgeous near-Mint State Angel, this coin shows full legends atop a lustrous, unbent flan. Magnification reveals fine die polish around the iconic obverse scene, which appears highly sharp for the series, with St. Michael's facial features still discernable.
