Description

Edward III (1327-1377) gold 1/4 Noble ND (1356-1361) MS64 NGC, Tower mint, Cross mm, Fourth Coinage, Pre-Treaty Period, S-1498, N-1191. +ЄDWΛRD: DЄI: GRΛ: RЄX: ΛnGL (double saltire stops), royal shield within octolobe / +ЄXΛLTABITVR: In: GLORIA (double saltire stops), cross fleury within octolobe, lions in angles, tiny lis in center. Incredibly difficult to locate in such near-gem status, some light traces of die rust visible, but no signs of rub or significant abrasions to speak of. The edges appear slightly irregular, though this does not encroach on the legends as often occurs on even very round pieces. Ex. Butler Family Collection (Heritage Auction #3072, January 2019, Lot 36522)
