Kiangnan. Kuang-hsü Dollar CD 1898 MS63 PCGS, Nanking mint, KM-Y145a.2, L&M-217, Kann-71, Chang-CH66, WS-0797, Wenchao-648 (rarity 1 star). Dragon with raised eyeballs variety, without dot in center of obverse (reverse as holdered). A stunningly high grade for this only slightly more available variety for the type-date, and displaying a level of conditional preservation that makes all standard comparisons between smaller variants virtually null and void; whereas the series is most often encountered in Details grades, just two certify slightly higher at PCGS (one MS64 and one MS64+). Even close magnification suggests remarkably few imperfections with the selection, a frosty white luster pervading the surfaces, while just the mildest evidence of contact precludes a finer technical designation. The first example of this subtype we have offered in over 4 years, we have been able to only locate an extremely small number of survivors in similar preservation having come to market in the last several decades, certainly marking this as a special opportunity for the connoisseur.
