Julia Mamaea (AD 222-235). AR denarius (19mm, 3.03 gm, 12h). NGC AU 4/5 - 4/5. Rome. IVLIA MA-MAEA AVG, draped bust of Julia Mamaea right, seen from front, wearing stephane, hair braided in rows and tuck at base of head in small chignon / IVNO AV-G-VSTAE, Juno seated left, flower in right hand, uncertain object cradled transverse in left. RIC IV.II 341. From the Santa Monica Collection The traditional catalog description in RIC calls the object cradled in Juno's left arm a "swathed infant (?)". On same dies, this description seems plausible, on others the object is looks like anything from a club, to a standard, to a palladium.
