Description

Spanish Colony. Ferdinand VII "Manila" Counterstamped 8 Reales 1828 F15 NGC, Manila mint, KM25, Basso-52, cf. Oropilla y Fortich-pg. 22, Fig. 1-17, and pp. 27-28, Fig. 2-1a and b, Fig. 2-1c. Displaying Type I MANILA 1828. counterstamp within serrated border counterstamp on the obverse, and HABILITADO POR EL REY N. S. D. FERN. VII. around crowned Spanish arms counterstamp on the reverse of a Peru 8 Reales 1827 LM-JM (cf. KM142.3). An ever-popular type within the early Filipino series and one which is seldom found outside of heavily circulated Fine to VF grades. Despite being noted on the holder as a Type II countermark (with the reverse lacking legends), faint traces of the counterstruck legend are readily visible, particularly around the N. S. D. This is the first example of the issue we have offered in over 3 years, and is sure to attract ample attention from series collectors.
