Central American Republic 8 Reales 1831 CR-F F15 NGC, San Jose mint, KM22, WR-1, Elizondo-2, Stickney-C92. Just a single year issue which virtually always comes in lower states of preservation--the Pura Vida, Mayer specimen, for instance, was an XF45--with perhaps only as many as 2,176 minted between assayers E and F combined; Stickney notes that while most catalogs record 508 struck in 1831, pieces produced between 1842-1844 were also backdated to 1831. Despite clear wear, a dark charcoal patina has paired nicely with the soft rubbed silver color of the devices to create a powerful light-dark contrast that makes the designs pop.
