Frankfurt. Free City silver "Napoleon III" Medal ND (ca. 1860) MS63, Maz-1748b (R3). 42mm. By Ferdinand Korn. Struck to an impressive 2 Taler weight and commissioned by medalist Ferdinand Korn in the hopes of gaining Napoleon III's patronage, ultimately ceasing production in Mainz shortly thereafter by decree of city officials. An absolutely breathtaking example of this expansive argent Medal, the flashy, mirror-like fields bathed in a mottled charcoal/lavender and showcasing the occasional autumnal tones to the exteriors of the raised devices. Decidedly scarce and rarely encountered at this level of preservation.
