Republic gold Proof 10 Pesos 1916 PR63 NGC, KM20 (Rare), Fr-3. A highly elusive issue of which only a small handful appears to have been made available in the last two decades. While the Standard Catalog of World Coins lists a price for the 1915 Proof issues, for the 1916, this reference simply notes the date as "Rare" and provides neither values nor a total mintage. However, the actual mintage may be less than 10 examples in total, rendering this prized date among the most difficult issues for collectors of the 20th-century Latin American series. The firm strike of this choice example is coupled with a resounding flash that echoes across the fields. A soft champagne tone clings delicately to the surfaces, simultaneously adding to the piece's allure and obscuring instances of handling, which are universally faint and confined to gentle wisps. A truly rare and eye-appealing coin, and one which simply cannot be overlooked.
